BREAKING: Steve Abbott Will Announce Next Week

This is a Pine Tree Politics exclusive:  Senator Susan Collins’ Chief of Staff, Steve Abbott, has officially resigned from his position and will be seeking the Republican nomination for Governor of Maine.  This hardly comes as a surprise given my coverage of Abbott in the past, but it is now official, and the wheels will be in motion next week.

Abbott will be sending out a media advisory this Monday, announcing his kick off events in Portland, Orono and Presque Isle on Tuesday.

Also a minor bombshell to the race, I have confirmed that Steve Abbott has lined up both Peter Cianchette and Peter Vigue behind him for his run.  The Cianbro duo brings some heavy hitting business and political ties to the Abbott campaign which will no doubt help him with both fundraising and institutional party support for his run.

More to come as it develops…
